          <datacite:description xml:lang="en" descriptionType="Abstract">Abundance and productivity of marine bacteria were investigated in Osaka Bay, eastern Seto Inland Sea, from September 1984 to June 1985. The mean cell volume of bacteria measured by image analysis ranged between 0.041 and 0.107 μm³ (mean of total measurements = 0.073 μm³, n = 6900). Bacteria determined with DAPI-staining and epifluorescence microscopy were 0.40 × 10⁶~5.08 × 10⁶ cells · ml⁻¹ in number and 2.30~37.78 μgC ·l⁻¹ in biomass. Integrated biomass in the water column varied from 0.04 to 0.93 gC · m⁻² (mean of total measurements = 0.28 gC · m⁻², n= 72). Total biomass in the whole of Osaka Bay was estimated to be 237~662 tonC (mean = 428 tonC). Bacterial productivity measured by FDC (Frequency of Dividing Cells) method ranged between 0.17 and 136.38 μgC ·l⁻² · day⁻². Mean bacterial productivity in water column varied from 0.06 to 0.95 gC · m⁻²·day⁻¹ (mean of total measurements = 0.43 gC · m⁻²·day⁻¹). Total bacterial productivity in the whole of Osaka Bay was calculated to be 95~1447 tonC · day⁻¹, and annual production was estimated to be 2.4 × 105 tonC. Bacterial abundance and productivity tended to be higher in the warmer season. The mean ratio of bacterial productivity to primary productivity of phytoplankton was 16.3%, suggesting that bacteria utilize about one-third of primary production in the water column of Osaka Bay.</datacite:description>
          <datacite:description xml:lang="ja" descriptionType="Abstract">1984年9月から1985年6月までの間4回,東部瀬戸内海に位置する大阪湾において調査を実施し,海水中の海洋細菌の全細菌数,平均細胞体積,現存量,および生産量を測定した。細菌数の計数には DAPI 染色と落射蛍光顕微鏡による直接検鏡法を用いた。細菌の細胞体積の測定は画像解析によった。細菌の増殖速度は,FDC法(分裂細胞頻度法)によって求めた。総細菌数は,0.40×10⁶~5.08×10⁶ cells・ml⁻¹(平均1.44×10⁶cells・ml⁻¹)の値を示し,高水温期に多く,また表層付近および湾東部の沿岸域で高密度である傾向があった。試水中の細菌の平均体積は,0.041~0.107 μm³(総平均 0.073μm³, n=6900)の値であった。細菌現存量は,2.30~37.78μgC·l⁻¹ (総平均9.38μgC·l⁻¹·)であった。また単位面積当たりの現存量は,0.04~0.93 gC·m⁻² (総平均0.28 gC·m⁻²)であった。大阪湾全体の細菌現存量は,237~662tonC(総平均428 tonC)で季節的に変動した。細菌の生産速度は0.17~136.38 μgC·l⁻¹·day⁻¹(総平均11.36μgC·l⁻¹·day⁻¹)の間で変動し,表層付近,および沿岸域で高い傾向が認められた。また季節的には高水温期に高く,季節変化の度合いも1桁以上もあった。大阪湾全体の生産量は 95~1447 tonC·day⁻¹(平均 660tonC·day⁻¹ )であり,年間の生産量は2.4×10⁵tonCと見積もられた。基礎生産の1/3以上が細菌を経由することが示唆された。</datacite:description>
