          <datacite:description xml:lang="en" descriptionType="Abstract">The dissolution of several heavy metals such as Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Pb and Cd from sewage sludge were studied in order to estimate the influence of the heavy metals released during sewage sludge disposal on water pollution. The metals in sewage sludge were fractionated by the sequential chemical extraction technique and the metals liberated were determined for each fraction. The chemical species of dissolved Mn and Zn in seawater were also determined by the methods of filtration with Amicon diaflow membrane filter and solvent extraction. The dissolution of the metals varied with different kinds of sewage sludge as well as solvent used. Larger amounts of the metals were released when suspended in seawater than in distilled water, and the oxidized sewage sludge released more heavy metals than the reduced one. Most Mn and Zn existed in the inorganic fractions. Mn and Zn in the exchangeable fraction were easily released during the short liberation period. On the other hand, Mn and Zn in the inorganic fractions were released during the long liberation experiment. The liberated Mn and Zn existed mainly as ionic forms. These results suggest that heavy metals in the inorganic fractions play an important role in the liberation of heavy metals from sewage sludge.</datacite:description>
          <datacite:description xml:lang="ja" descriptionType="Abstract">(1) 下水汚泥中の重金属の濃度は処理した下水の水質を反映し著しく異なる。下水汚泥中のFeは有機態区にも存在するが,Mn, Zn の大部分は無機態区分に存在する。(2) 下水汚泥からの重金属の溶出は,汚泥の種類および元素によって著しく異なり,還元的な汚泥からの溶出は酸化的な汚泥からの溶出よりも小さい傾向であった。(3) 汚泥から溶出したFe は分子量10³~10⁴の比較的高分子有機物画分にも認められるが,Mn, Zn は大部分イオン状態で溶存する。(4) 下水汚泥からのMn, Znの短期的な溶出量は交換吸着態画分のMn, Zn濃度に依存し,中長期的な溶出量は無機態画分(fraction 1,2および3)のMn, Zn濃度に依存している。従って,下水汚泥の無機態画分のMn, Zn 濃度を測定することにより,これらの元素の溶出を推定することが可能である。</datacite:description>
