          <datacite:description xml:lang="en" descriptionType="Abstract">Fifty-four strains of unicellular algae (diatoms, phytoflagellates and green-algae) were isolated from Ago Bay, its adjacent waters (Mie prefecture, Japan) and freshwater fish rearing tanks. All the strains were cultured under the same temperature and light condition - 20°C and 6000 lux with a light/dark cycle of 14/10 hours - and were examined for the relationships between the photosynthesis and light intensities. Several strains belonging to the same species showed almost similar photosynthesis-light intensity curves (Fig. 1). On the other hand, the strains belonging to the same genus showed various curves. In green-algal groups examined, maximum gross-production rates (Pgmax) had positive correlation with Ik' values (light intensity showing half-Pgmax), however, in phytoflagellates, their Pgmax were usually low (7-15 mg O₂/mg Chl.a/hr) (Fig. 2). Green-algae and phytoflagellates were usually resistant to high light intensity. P/R (the ratio of Pgmax to respiration rate) were 1.73-31.95, 2.73-23.90 and 2.00-9.48 in diatoms, green-algae and phytoflagellates, respectively, and the obvious differences were not found among these three groups. The chlorophyll a amounts per 10⁶ cells of all the strains examined were from 0.011 to 107.7 μg. The mean values of Assimilation number of diatoms, green-algae and phytoflagellates were 450, 946 and 337 mol O₂/mol Chl. a/hr, respectively. The correlation of the occurring season and abundance of each phytoplankton species in the natural phytoplankton communities with the parameters obtained from its photosynthesis-light intensity curve could not be observed.</datacite:description>
          <datacite:description xml:lang="ja" descriptionType="Abstract">三重県英虞湾とその周辺海域および淡水養魚池などから単細胞藻類の珪藻40株,鞭毛藻7株および緑藻7株を分離培養し,同一温度·照度条件(20℃,6klux明/暗=14/10時間周期)下で培養した各株の光合成と照度の関係について調べた。その結果,同一種の各株は分離時期が異なっても比較的類似した光·光合成曲線を示した。一方,同一属の各株間ではそのような結果は得られなかった。分離株を珪藻,鞭毛藻, 緑藻の 3群に分け, 光·光合成曲線から得られる各パラメーター(Pgmax: 真の最大光合成速度,Ik':1/2 Pgmax を与える照度,Pg50/Pgmax:50klux での光合成速度とPgmaxの比)を比較した結果,緑藻においては Pgmax と Ik’との間に正の相関が見い出されたが,鞭毛藻ではIk'の値にかかわらず,Pgmax は7~15 mg O₂/mg Chl.a/hr と低い値であった。また緑藻と鞭毛藻には強光に抵抗性をもつものが多かった。P/R(Pgmax と呼吸速度の比)は珪藻で1.73~31.95,緑藻で2.73~23.90,鞭毛藻で2.00~9.48であり,3群の間に有意な差はなかった。10⁶ 細胞あたりのクロロフィルa量は0.011~107.7μgの範囲であった。同化数の平均値は,それぞれ珪藻で 450mol O₂/mol Chl.a/hr,緑藻で946,鞭毛藻で337であった。各株の天然海域での出現季節やプランクトン群集における優占度と先に挙げた各パラメーターの間には明瞭な関係が見出されなかった。</datacite:description>
