Heat shock (40℃, 1 minute) was applied to eggs fertilized with UV-irradiated sperm of common carp at 5-minute intervals from 5 to 90 minutes after fertilization at 20°C. Normal looking diploid fry were encountered when shocks were initiated 5, 25, 35-50, 65-70, or 80-90 minutes after fertilization respectively. Histological observation suggests that diploidization was accomplished by suppression of 2nd meiosis, 1st, 2nd or 3rd mitosis respectively.
