          <datacite:description xml:lang="en" descriptionType="Abstract">Residual fraction from whole fish of sardine (Sardinops melanosticta) cooked and pressed was washed several times with ethanol to release as much of the lipids and solubles in it as possible, and then made into a sardine meal. The sardine meal and the other process fractions, sardine oil and sardine extract, from the original material were substituted respectively for part of either casein or lard in a cholesterol containing diet to be fed to rats. After a restricted feeding trial lasting 35 days, the following results were obtained: The sardine meal diet as well as the sardine oil diet particularly lowered the plasma cholesterol levels in rats, and the hypocholesterolemic effect of the former was also exhibited in the liver cholesterol levels and liver weight. These findings appear to indicate that the factors responsible for the effect are associated with proteins in the meal.</datacite:description>
          <datacite:description xml:lang="ja" descriptionType="Abstract">マイワシ全魚体を煮熟·圧搾して脂質,ェキス及び固形部に分離し,固形部はエタノール処理してミールとした。ラットを6匹ずつ5群に分け,対照群にはカゼイン15%,ラード7%,コレステロール0.5%,胆汁酸塩0.1%を含む餌料を,供試料群ではカゼイン又はラードの一部をミール,エキス,イワシ油でそれぞれ代替した餌料を,また標準群にはラードの一部を大豆油で代替し,かつコレステロールを負荷しない餌料をそれぞれ制限食により与えて35日間飼育した。血漿·肝臓のコレステロール値ならびに肝臓重量において対照群が最も高く,標準群が最も低かったが,供試料群のうちミール群は,血漿コレステロール値ではイワシ油群とともに標準群に接近し,肝臓コレステロール値,肝臓重量においても他群より低かった。</datacite:description>
