西部北太平洋におけるサンマの耳石透明帯の形成時期 Suyama, Satoshi 525 巣山, 哲 70344322 スヤマ, サトシ Sakurai, Yasunori 桜井, 泰憲 サクライ, ヤスノリ The formation period of the hyaline zones in otoliths of the Pacific saury Cololabis saira (Brevoort) (n=1106) collected from the western North Pacific during February 1991 to December 1992 were examined. Five types of otoliths were observed: type I (no hyaline zone), type II (incomplete hyaline zone along the outer otolithedge), type Ⅲ (one complete hyaline zone), type IV (two hyaline zones) and other type. Approximately 80% of the small-and medium-sized fish (≤280mm) exhibited type I otoliths, and 15.8% and 65.4% of the large-sized fish (>280mm) showed type II and type Ⅲ otoliths, respectively. Most type IV otoliths were observed in larger fish (>314mm).
