The preceding study (Kashiwai and Kono, 1990) has shown that the sea -level difference along the southeast coast of Hokkaido is indicative of the velocity of the alongshore flow of the Oyashio. Based on this fact, the annual mean time series of sea-level, alongshore sea-level difference, shore sea-surface temperature, the southern limit of First Oyashio Intrusion and the Far East Zonal Index, have been analyzed by numerical classification and lagged correlation. Results have revealed followings ; (1) Strong winter westerly monsoon corresponds to southern shift of the First Oyashio Intrusion and negative anomaly of coastal sea-surface temperature, (2) After time delay of two years from strong winter westerly monsoon, the velocity of alongshore flow of the Oyashio slows down and the coastal sea-level become lower, and (3) For the interannual variations, the coastal sea-level is indicative of the velocity of alongshore flow of the Oyashio.
