The eddy has a thickness of about 600m and consists of two layers, the upper high temperature and high salinity layer with a thickness of about 200m and the lower isothermal layer of 4˚C. There are certain corresspondences between surface temperature fronts by satellite infrared images and the subsurface fronts of the eddy. Position of the north-east front by satellite images well agrees with the front judged from the subsurface structure. Cold streamers seen in the satellite images coincide with the south boundary of the eddy. Thus the horizontal shape of the eddy can be deduced from the satellite image by neglecting the warm streamer and fitting to ellipse. The shape of the eddy changed from a circular to an elliptical form in late September. The eddy increased the ratio of major axis to minor axis to about three on 8 October. Then the eddy decayed to be an extremely elongated form on 15 October.
