| 内容記述 | The population size of the Pacific mackeral from 1961 to 1984 seasons was calculated by the cohort analysis, and the result was compared with the estimate by the spawning survey method. In consideration of the seasonal change of fishing grounds, the two semesters, January to June and July to December, were used as the unit time period for the natural and fishing mortality coefficients. The natural mortality coefficient was assumed to be uniformly, 0.4. The terminal fishing mortality coefficients of 0. 26 for the cohorts up to1972 and 0. 70 after 1972, were input. The fishing mortality coefficients were obtained through average survival rates estimated from the age composition of 5-year old fish and older. These fish were assumed to have completed recruitment to the fishery. The 1961, 1964, 1970 and 1976 year classes appeared as the dominant year class. Recently, the population size of the Pacific mackerel has been at an exceptionally low level, with about 3 billion fish at age one. The adult population also decreased to 2.3 billion fish in 1984. There was a considerable difference between estimates of the adult population size calculated from the cohort analysis and from the spawning survey method. It seemed that this difference was due to underestimation by the spawning survey method and re-examination of the overall amount of eggs was required to make this point clear. | |||||
