内容記述 Small scale observations across the Kuroshio front were conducted by R/V Soyo Maru (494 tonnages) at the south of Cape Shionomisaki on 9 to 10 March 1983. The micro-distribution of planktons and nutrients were already contributed to our bulletin (KURODA et al, 1985, SASAKI et al, 1985, KURODA, 1986). In these papers, the physical parameters such as temperatures and salinities were described as the background of planktons and nutrients distributions. In this paper, the physical parameters across the Kuroshio front are described in detail in relation to the plankton distributions. The surface water along the section has already been classified into 5 groups from plankton distributions (KURODA et al, 1985) and nutrient distributions (SASAKI et al, 1985). These classifications are rational from temperature and salinity distributions. Temperature and salinity distributions suggest that the group 1 water was not formed recently but it had passed long time after formation of it. The divergence and convergence of the sea surface water is calculated by using the continuity equation and the velocities derived from the ship drift. Convergence is obtained by calculation at the cyclonic shear zone of the Kuroshio front. And the settling volume of zoo-plankton is the largest at the cyclonic shear zone of the Kuroshio front. By these results, the cyclonic shear zone of the Kuroshio front is suggested to be the convergence zone. A model that the geostrophic shear of the main current induces the secondary flow is used to explain the convergence and divergence along the section. Taking the coeficients of eddy viscosity to be 1 × 10⁷ cm²/sec in horizontal and 10 cm²/sec in vertical, the secondary flow pattern is similar to the observed secondary flow. This result suggests that the secondary flow is induced by the shear effect of geostrophic current.
