| 内容記述 | A large scale vernal phytoplankton bloom was observed off the Pacific coast of the Kanto district in April, 1984. The hydrographic conditions and the major species in that bloom were examined in Kashimanada and off the Boso Peninsula. At that time, the predominant Oyashio front was formed off Cape Inubosaki and a cold water mass existed in the coastal area south of the front. The quantities of chlorophyll a ranged from more than 2μg/l in the blooming area, with a maximum of 12.77 μg/l observed off Oarai, Kashimanada. The cold water species, Odontella aurita, Thalassiosira nordenskioeldii, Nitzschia grunowii and Nitzschia cylindrus were dominant in the northern part of the front, while the neritic species Chaetoceros debile, Chaetoceros sociale and Thalassiosira diporocyclus were dominant in the southern part of the front. This extraordinary phytoplankton bloom may have been caused partly because of the abnormally cold water conditions in the winter and spring of 1984. | |||||
