| 内容記述 | Fukushima, Ibaraki and Chiba prefectural fisheries experimental stations conducted simultaneous oceanographic observations of Joban to Boso sea area during the period 6 to 8 of March 1978. It was an epoch-making event, having a cooperative observation of Joban to Boso sea area in such a short period. Nansen bottles, DBT (digital bathythermograph), BT and GEK were used to measure temperatures, salinities and velocities. It was intended by this simultaneous investigation to clarify water characteristics of a warm water tongue and its surroundings. A typical warm water tongue was formed by extension of the shear zone of the Kuroshio shallower than 200 m from south-east to Kashima-nada with a wave length of 40 nautical miles and a wave height of 70 nautical miles at the sea surface. As the western boundary of the warm water tongue was trapped by the continental shelf along Kashima-nada, the continental shelf was estimated to have an important effect in keeping the warm water tongue to Kashima-nada. The water characteristics in the warm water tongue shallower than 100m are similar to the Kuroshio water and those deeper than 200 m are close to the Oyashio water. The warm water tongue is composed of the Western North Pacific Central Water with the thermosteric anomaly of 160 cl/t to 200 cl/t. This water is observed at a depth shallower than 400 m in the Kuroshio. The salinity minimum water lies under the warm water tongue and its surroundings at a depth range of 200 to 400m with the salinity lower than 33.65‰. The temperature minimum water lower than 3.5°C is recognized at a depth of 400 to 500m. The depth of the temperature minimum water is different from that of the salinity minimum water. This result indicates that the temperature minimum water (dichothermal water) lies under the salinity minimum water ( intermediate water). Therefore, in Joban to Boso sea area, both the intermediate and dichothermal waters are detected in vertical stratification. The thermosteric anomaly of the intermediate water is 125 cl/t to 140 cl/t and that of the dichothermal water is 120 cl/t to 130 cl/t. The cold core is observed at the depth shallower than 200 m adjacent to the shear zone of the Kuroshio as well as the dichothermal water. The cold core adjacent to the shear zone of the Kuroshio (KAWAI, 1972, MIzUNo et al., 1979) is estimated to be formed by peeling off of the intermediate water (not dichothermal water) owing to the shear flow between the Kuroshio and its surroundings. Typical water masses in the western North Pacific Ocean such as the subtropical mode water, intermediate water, original Oyashio water and others are observed in the narrow sea area of Joban to Boso just like a miniature of water mass distributions. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
