内容記述 Recently, the tumour of Porphyra cultivated in the field, polluted by sewages of cities and wastes of chemical and other kinds of factories, has caused very heavy damage to the product of Nori cultivation. Fujiyama (1957 a ) was the first to recognize this disease, which was named crown-gall disease meaning the canceous disease, from the results of cytochemical studies of the thalli affected by the tumour. He made clear that the healthy thalli presented the same symptoms as the tumour tissue by exposure to X-ray or culturing in the solution containing a little carcinogenic compound such as nitrogen mustard. All the reports concerning the field observation on this disease in the different cultivating fields pointed out the relation between the cause and the sewages or wastes (Arasaki et al. 1960, Kawabe 1961, Kawabe et al. 1962, Yoshida et al. 1968, Ishio et al. 1971). In the present paper, the ultrastructural difference, between the cells of the tumour and of healthy condition, are explained. The vacuole, that shows different figures from ones in the old cells of the healthy thalli, appeared within the cytoplasm of the disease cells. This vacuole contains the so-called concentric bodies or lamellar bodies (Gantt and Conti 1965, McBride and Cole 1969), and these bodies show three different types; the inside of the lamellar circular which is composed of many thin lamellae occupied with low electron condense material; the inside of the lamellar circular is filled only with the cell-sap; many circular lamellae fill the centric portion. Sometimes, the cytoplasm showed complicated string shape, and it seems to occur on account of change of the figures of the endoplasmic reticulum. In the cells of serious disease, DNA-fibrils within the chloroplast lamella (Yokomura 1966, Bisalputra and Bisalputra 1967) become visible clearly and the size of the cells are unsteady. Though Fujiyama concluded that the cells having more than two nuclei were the origin of the tumour tissue, those cells were never observed in P. yezoensis which was the same materials as used for ultrastructural observation. On the other hand, many cells having more than two nucleoli were observed clearly from the healthy thalli in a new variety (Miura unpublished) of P. tenera.
