In early August, two groups of smolts, S-smolt (10.0-12.5 cm in fork length) and L-smolt (13.5-15.0 cm in fork length) were transferred to seawater (33‰) and maintained for 5 days. L-smolt group showed higher survival rate compared to S-smolt group. However, there was no significant difference in the changes in serum sodium concentrations in both groups during the entire period. When smolts of both groups were acclimated in 1/2 seawater (15‰) for 5 days and then transferred to seawater, survival rate increased. These results show that smolts with larger body size may have higher seawater tolerance than small ones, and that acclimation to 1/2 seawater for 5 days may improve the seawater tolerance in 群(体色が銀白化し,尾叉長が10.0-12.5cmの群)およびL-smolt群(体色が銀白化し,尾叉長が13.5-15.0 cmの群)に分けて,海水適応能に与える成長差(尾叉長差)の影響を検討した.1. smolt はparrより大型であり,体色の銀白化に際し,急激な尾叉長の伸びを示した.2. 全海水(33‰)に直接移行した場合,120時間後の生残率は,parr-0%, S-smolt-23%,L-smolt-63%であった.3. 1/2海水(15‰)中では,parr,S-smolt, L-smolt共に,全個体が120時間生残できた.4. 1/2海水で120時間馴化させてから全海水に移した場合,生残率は各群で高まった.特にS-smolt で顕著であった.5.0年魚smolt群内の体長差は,海水移行後の魚\nの血中ナトリウム濃度の変化に影響していなかった.6. サクラマス smolt
