Eggs and prototrochophores were indifferent to light. Metatrochophores and pelagic nectochaetes, which had larval eye spots and strong ciliation, were continuously and strongly photopositive or demonstrated positive photokinesis. Early benthi-pelagic nectochaetes oriented toward the vertically directed light, but away from the horizontally directed light. Late benthi-pelagic nectochaetes, in which the ciliation was degenerated and the parapodia developed, were indifferent to the vertically directed light but slightly photonegative to the horizontally directed light.
