A. salmonicida was inoculated in nutrient broth at 5, 10, 15, and 20 ℃ and growth rate were studied. The bacteria were also inoculated both intraperitoneally and intramuscularly into Yamame at a dose of 10-4 mg wet weight per 100 g body weight. Inoculated fish were kept at water temperatures of 10, 15, and 20℃ and viable counts of A. salmonicida in the blood, spleen, liver, kidney, and heart were examined. A. salmonicida cultured in nutrient broth showed faster growth as the incubation temperature increased. Viable counts of A. salmonicida in all organs examined of Yamame inoculated with the bacteria increased faster and period required for death after the inoculation of bacteria became shorter as the water temperature increased. Numbers of viable bacteria in the spleen and kidney were larger than that in the blood at all the water temperatures examined irrespective of the route of administration of bacteria.
