Ten males were mated with thirty females according to the hierarchial design and then each full-sib was divided into two lots to estimate heritability for eyed eggs(%) and hatchability. Brood stock used had been collected from River Hida in a period between 1965 and 1968 and raised at the Gifu Frefectural Fisheries Experimental Station. Mean values for eyed eggs(%) and hatchability were 91.2 and 80.3% respectively. A great fluctuation was observed in hatching time and duration of hatching even in the same full-sib and lot, duration of hatching among the whole lots ranged 6 to 21 days. Mean hatching time and mean temperature unit for hatching were in the ranges of 43 to 51 days and 439 to 502°C, respectively. From analysis of variance of half-sib, heritabilities based on sire components for eyed eggs(%), hatchability, hatching time and duration of hatching were estimated to be 0.101, 0.079, 0.217 and 0.282, respectively. Maternal effects for four traits were estimated to be 0.154, 0.182, 0.029 and 0.165 in order. Genetic correlation between eyed eggs(%) and hatchability was 0.778.
