The spawning of the scallop by using thermal stimulation method occurred at 20°C. Development from the fertilized eggs (70 μm in diameter) to early straight hinge veliger stage (105 μm in length) took approximately 40 hours at temperature 15°C. Outlines of the cell-lineage from fertilized eggs to 16-celled stage of the Pecten were described. The metamorphosing stage larvae measured 210-240 μm were reared in approximately 3 weeks at between 18 and 20°C. The size was smaller than that of P. maximus (250 μm). The 'eye' spots appeared in larvae exceeding 190 μm in length. External morphology (representative sizes, outline including umbonal shape, length-height relationship, texture, coloration and hinge structure) was described.
