The total content of these substances (μ moles/100 ml) increased with increasing body size, being mainly affected by the increments in alanine, lysine and histidine. The other substances were relatively consistent or increased slightly. In all sizes, the sums of taurine, glycine, alanine and ammonia were 43-53% of the total ninhydrin reactive substances, and the percentage of valine, leucine, lysine or histidine was comparatively high among the essential amino acids. The percentage of taurine was half and that of alanine was twice as much in the largest size group as those in the two smaller size groups.
