Absorption spectra of both acetone extracts from P. lutheri and its decomposed substance by 4N HCI were compared with that from digestive diverticula of the pearl oyster after feeding P. lutheri. Consequently absorption spectrum of the decomposed substance was similar to that from digestive diverticula. In the feeding experiment, after the pearl oyster fed P. lutheri, the amount of phaeophytin extracted from digestive diverticula increased rapidly, most abundant after 3 hours, and then decreased gradually. Seasonal changes in phaeophytin contents extracted from digestive diverticula were closely related to phytoplankton pigment (chlorophyll-a + phaeophytin) contents in the environmental sea water where the pearl oysters were cultivated. It was considered that chlorophyll of phytoplankton fed by pearl oyster would be existed into phaeophytin in the digestive diverticula.
