Presence of podocytes at the pericardial gland suggested ultrafiltration of blood in this gland. The kidneys formed a folded duct which was divided into proximal and distal portions with different histology and cytology. In the proximal portion, the epithelium was highly infolded, and the columnar epithelial cells had a brush border, basal infoldings, and abundant mitochondria at the apical and basal cytoplasm. Furthermore, the cells had numerous invaginations of apical cytoplasmic membrane and granules, indicating reabsorption system both by active ion transport and lysosome system. In contrast, the epithelium of the distal portion was smooth and its epithelial cells were poor in basal infoldings.
