Furthermore, the food value of T. tetrathele for the rotifer, Brachionus plicatilis, three species of penaeid shrimps, Penaeus japonicus, P. brasiliensis, P. paulensis, and the food value of rotifers fed with the alga for some marine finfish larvae, Pagrus major, Paralichthys olivaceus, Acanthopagrus schlegeli, were observed by feeding experiments. T. tetrathele was ascertained to be both eurythermal and euryhaline. A suitable medium for laboratory scale culture was composed of four reagents, while a suitable and economical medium for mass culture consisted of three fertilizers. The growth of T. tetrathele differed with each season, but the alga was able to culture in outdoor large tanks. T. tetrathele was found to be high in quality as a food for the rotifer and penaeid shrimps. However, the levels of (ω3 HUFA in rotifers cultured with T. tetrathele was not sufficient for the rearing of marine finfish larvae. Therefore, the dietary value of the rotifers must be improved by mixed or secondary culture with Nannochloropsis oculata.
