| 内容記述 | Seasonal changes in the gonad development of the scallops, Chlamys nobilis, were examined on the basis of GSI (Gonad somatic index) and histological observation. Scallop spats produced in the laboratory were cultured in Gokasho Bay, Mie Prefecture. Specimens were sampled monthly from 5 months to 20 months of age. The reproductive cycle was biannual; the first spawning period from June to July was followed by the second spawning period from October to November. Most of juveniles at 8 and 9 months of age were male with spermatozoa. Thereafter a few female were observed at 11 months of age. Hermaphrodites observed at 10 and 11 months of age suggest the possibility of sex reversal from male to female. No increase of wet meat weight observed from June to August might be related to spawning activity. | |||||
