Under laboratory conditions at a water temperature of 15℃ and a salinity of 35 ppt, the development consists of three zoeal stages and one decapodid, requiring 14-16 days from hatching to decapodid. The results of the present study are compared with those of previous works mainly based on planktonic materials. Larval features of 5 thalassinid families are discussed, and it is concluded that the Upogebiidae shows intermediate condition between primitive Axiidae and advanced Laomediidae.
