| 内容記述 | The process of sexual maturation and sex reversal was investigated in cultivated and wild red spotted grouper, Epinephelus akaara. The red spotted grouper was histologically confirmed to be generally protogynous hermaphrodite. But, size of sex reversing was different between cultivated fish and wild fish. Transformation to male occurs in winter-spring, out of spawning season. Sex reversal prior to first maturation as a female partly occurs in this species. This phenomenon was proved by the presence of precocious male in 1year-old fish. The changes in the serum testosterone and estradiol-17ß levels reflected the seasonal reproductive cycle of male and female. In intersexual phase, the serum steroids levels were very low and no sign of sex reversal could be found from the present data. | |||||
