When these cultured microbes were added to seawater where crab larvae of Portunus trituberculatus were reared, bacterial numbers decreased very rapidly, followed by the decrease in flagellated protozoa and diatoms. These data suggest that the crab larvae fed on these microorganisms, successively. We checked each microorganism as to whether or not they were effective in the growth of the larvae.
