| 内容記述 | To investigate the concentration of formaldehyde affecting growth of marine diatoms, two algal species (Chaetoceros gracilis and Nitzschia sp. ) were cultured with 0.1~500 ppm of formaldehyde. Both of the diatoms exposed to formaldehyde over 5 ppm did not exhibit growth. C. gracilis had a longer lag period when it was cultured with 1 ppm of formaldehyde, but growth rate and final chlorophyll a concentration was not affected in the control. In contrast, the growth of Nitzschia sp. was slightly inhibited by 0.5~1.0 ppm of formaldehyde. These results suggest that formaldehyde response varies among diatom species, but that formaldehyde concentration lower than 0.1 ppm does not significantly affect the growth of diatoms and that of over 5 ppm may affect algal growth significantly. | |||||||||||||||||
