内容記述 In order to estimate the fish biomass density or the size of the fish by acoustic means, the target strength of the fish must be measured beforehand. In this measurement transmitting and receiving devices should be calibrated. But calibrated values may vary with components in water (e. g. air bubbles), as time passes. So the calibration must be done as simultaneously as possible with the target strength measurement. Usual calibration methods, however, are so timeconsuming that the measurement is not simultaneous with the calibration. Therefore the authors developed a simultaneous calibration method in target strength measurement. In this method a hydrophone is put between a projector and a target, and it receives both the direct wave and the reflected one. The target strength can be computed from the amplitude ratio of thus obtained two waves. The merits of this method are as follows. (1) As the calibration is simultaneous with the measurement, it does not require time and labor. (2) Calibration errors are very slight. (3) If a projector, a hydrophone, and a target are on a straight line, the directivity pattern of the projector need not to be considered. (4) Every projected sound level can be always monitored. On the other hand, restrictions of this method are as follows. (5) It needs a small omnidirectional hydrophone. (6) The distance from a projector to a hydrophone or to a target must be carefully determined, considering Q factor of the projector, the near field of the target, and the amplitude ratio of the direct wave and the reflected one. These method were examined experimentally and some measurements were performed on a standard reflector.
