As the first step, a hydraulic experiment on a detached breakwater and with no structure was carried out. Sea bottom slope was 1/30. Offshore distance, slope of runup surface and characteristics of tsunami were varied. Detached breakwaters were of permeable, impermeable and continuous impermeable varieties.
