A double-embedded foundation is proposed for fishing port facilities on soft ground. This foundation is light to prevent settlement and has two embedment lines resisting against wave force. It is expected to be built at a low cost because improvement of the ground is not necessary. A model foundation was put on the normally consolidated ground and loading tests were carried out in a centrifugal field. Deformation behavior and subgrade reacton of the foundations were investigated by loading vertically and/or horizontally. It was found that vertical and horizontal bearing capacity increases with the depth of embedment. Based on the results, formulas that express bearing capacity and subgrade reaction of this foundation are proposed. |
