On the rearing experiment to test the effect of low salinity, daily survival rate was measured from 11 to 40 days after hatch. According to growth, the oxygen consumption (μ 1/g wet weight/hour) fell abruptly during the period from 10 to 14 days after hatch. The oxygen consumption of larvae in the period from 10 to 20 days increased in low salinity. (20%~80% sea water), but that during from 30 to 40 days was constant. When the sea water concentration was abruptly diluted from 100% to 50% and from 50% to 25% in turn, the oxygen consumption of 17 days larvae increased about 8 and 14 times and recovered in 3 and 4 hours, respectively. That of 31 days larvae increased 1.5 times and recovered in 30 minutes. Oh the rearing experiment, the survival rate of larvae in 20% sea water was extremely low and the mortality was the greatest in the period from 14 to 18 days after hatch both in usual and in low salinity.
