Experiments 1, 2 and 3 respectively were composed of 10 repeated hauls at 3 different sites in the spawning survey ground in the western waters of Kyushu. The volume of water filtered by the LNP-net was considerably higher than that of the MTB-net (average 34%) and the plankton wet weight/haul of the LNP-net was also significantly higher than that of the MTB-net. As for the catches of eggs and larvae, Experiment 1 showed only the number of fish larvae with the exception of the number of sardines/haul being significantly higher in the LNP-net. In Experiment 2, the number of sardine eggs was clearly higher in the LNP-net. Experiment 3 showed marked differences between the two nets. All catches of eggs and larvae between the MTB-net and LNP-net including the commercially important group \"iwashi\" (anchovy, round herring and sardine)/haul were significantly higher for the LNP-net, mostly at the 1% level. This experiment was done under calm conditions, and many gelatinous plankton caused net clogging.
