| 内容記述 | This paper reports on the successful artificial fertilization of the eggs and observations of the embryonic development of the Japanese sardine, Sardinops melanostictus. Adult sardines were caught by rod and line near Tanegashima Island. Males were fished from the surface, and a single ripe female from 10-15 m depth, at 20 : 20, 3 March 1992. Artificial fertilization was attempted by the "dry method". A batch of ca. 2,000~3,000 inseminated eggs was incubated in 1 and 2l beakers at a temperature of 21-22℃. One hour after insemination, a perivitelline space was formed and the first cleavage of the blastodisc was observed. It was noted that some eggs formed a perivitelline space and blastodisc, but did not develop further, suggesting the eggs were unfertilized. For some specimens, the fixiation of eggs in formalin solution caused considerable ejection of yolk matter into the perivitelline space, mainly between the blastula stage and the end of the Aa stage. In 4 hours, eggs reached the blastula stage, B stage in 12 hours and C stage in 24 hours. Hatching occurred within 30 to 36 hours. Unfortunately, all larvae died within 1.5 days after hatching, probably because of the deterioration of the rearing sea water. Artificial fertilization of natural sardine eggs, not induced by hormones, may allow developmental experiments to be carried out under controlled conditions on the research vessel. | |||||
