| 内容記述 | Field experiments to clarify the movement of hatchery-reared juvenile abalones immediately after their release onto artificial reefs were carried out in Shijiki Bay, western Kyushu, as previous releases of hatchery-reared juveniles noted rapid decreases of numbers during the first few months after release. Several reefs of both stones set in a parallel piped net cage and also of U-shaped, road gutter, concrete blocks were used as artificial substrates. Dispersion of the abalones from the reefs was checked by SCUBA diving observations at intervals of several hours on the day of release and over 2 days in March and June, 1987. Their movement was observed throughout the daytime of the day of release, and increased during the night on both reefs. In March, some dispersed animals were found 5 meters beyond the reef. This abnormal behavior of abalones immediately after release might reflect the level of stress on them after being transplanted to the field from hatchery conditions and thus may be a cause of predation. Abalones moving out from the concrete blocks were comparatively more than those from the stones in a cage, suggesting an effect of artificial substrate on the transplantation of abalones. | |||||
