It was clarified that the morphological characteristics of eyes, pigmented regions and hooks are valid for identifying chaetognaths ingested. This paper deals with the importance of chaetognaths as food of demersal fishes and species characteristics of chaetognaths fed by demersal fishes. Chaetognaths obtained with a larval net (1.5mm in mesh aperture, 2 m in mouth diameter) were first identified and the examination of distribution and parasites were then carried out. The results of the present investigation are summarized as follows 1) Eleven species of demersal fishes fed mainly on copepods, chaetognaths, euphausiids, mysids, macrurans and fish larvae. 2) The ratio of specimens with chaetognaths in their stomach to the entire specimens was not always high, ranging from 0.9 to 64.3%. 3) Chaetognaths ingested by most of demersal fishes were less than 10 individuals per single species. This presumably indicates the presence of swarm of chaetognaths of particular species. 4) Among 20 species which belong to 4 genera of chaetognaths, 5 species were found most abundantly. Among 5 species, Sagitta nagae and S. enflata were often found in the stomach. 5) Specimens mainly containing S. nagae were obtained from the northern part of the East China Sea, while fishes mainly having S. enflata were collected from the southern part. The distribution of chaetognaths presumed on the basis of distribution of demersal fishes and chaetognaths ingested by them coincided well with the distributional pattern derived from the specimens collected with a plankton net by the previous author. 6) Plankton samples collected with a larval net seem to be unreliable both for quantitative and qualitative analyses. However, as far as large-sized chaetognath species in this area are concerned, relative abundance and the occurrence of dominant species were identical with the results based on the plankton net collections. 7) In the East China Sea, S. enflata, S. pulchra and Pterosagitta draco were frequently infected with metacercariae, cestodes and nematodes. However, infection by gregarines and ciliates, which are the important parasites in Suruga Bay was not found there. 8) Except infection by a single larval trematode at least 4 small metacercariae were frequently parasitic on their host chaetognaths. 9) Sagitta enflata obtained from Stn. 238 was infected with a metacercaria belonging to the family Hemiuridae Lecithocladium, at least 4 small metacercariae of the Monilicaecum-group, or a larval nematode of the family Anisakidae Thynnascaris. 10) It was impossible to identify larval trematodes of Lecithocladium and larval nematodes of Thynnascaris to the species level. Both genera include many identi fied species whose adults parasitize in the stomach or intestine of marine fishes. This suggests that fishes containing chaetognaths infected with larvae of these parasites may be infected with adults of these parasites. S.nagae を主に捕食した底魚は東シナ海の30°Nより北から,S.enflata を主に捕食した底魚は30°Nより南から採集された.底魚の分布とその胃内容物中のやむしから推定した東シナ海におけるやむしの分布は,プランクトンネットで調査したやむしの分布とよく一致した.6. 稚魚ネットで採集されたプランクトンは定量性を欠き,定性的な資料としても十分でないと考えられる.しかし,このネットで得られた大型のやむしについては,その相対的な量や卓越種はプランクトンネットによる従来の結果と同じであった.7. 東シナ海に生息するやむしのうち,S. enflata, S.pulchra および Pterosagitta draco が吸虫類のmetacercaria,条虫類および線虫類に感染していた.しかし,駿河湾のやむしにとって重要な寄生立である gregarine や繊毛虫類が寄生するやむしは東シナ海からは見出されなかった.8. 吸虫類の metacercaria は宿主に普通1個体寄生するが,小型の metacercaria が宿主に少なくとも4個体寄生することがあった.9. Stn. 238から採集された S. enflata は吸虫類Hemiuridae 科,Lecithocladium 属の metacercaria1個体,小型の吸虫類 Monilicaecum 群に属するmetacercaria を最低4個体,あるいは線虫類Anisakidae 科,Thynnascaris 属の幼虫1個体に感染していた.10.
