The investigation was made during a period from August 19 to 29, 1975, at 3 in the mouth, 7 in the center, and 13 stations in the innermost bay. The results obtained are as follows: 1. As shown in Table 2, a total of 1,672 individuals, which belong to 93 species-61 families-26 orders- 3 subclasses-11 classes, was obtained from the entire samples. 2. In the mouth part of the bay, the area with direct influence of warm Kuroshio water, and covered with coarse bottom sediments, the indicator species of Kuroshio and Tsushima Warm Current such as Xenophora pallidula, Eumunida dofleini, Galatheidae, Carcinoplax surugensis and Laqueus rubellus were collected together with the following fish species: Zeus japonicus, Sebastiscus marmoratus and Platycephalidae. 3. The innermost part of the bay was influenced seriously by the river discharge, with little influence of water from the outside of the bay. The basin was covered with volcanic ashes and ooze. The numbers of species and individual of polychaetes were abundant there. Sthenolepis japonica (Aphroditidae), Glycera alba (Glyceridae), Onuphis sp. Lumbrineris heteropoda and Lumbrineris sp. (Eunicidae) were the important species in Errantia. While, Phyllochaetopterus claparedii, Spiochaetopterus costarum (Chaetopteridae), Amphisam ytha sp. (Ampharetidae), Terebella ehrenbergi (Terebellidae), and Pseudopotamilla reniformis (Sabellidae) were the principal constituents in Sedentaria. The mixture of many empty tubes of P. claparedii and S. costarum (Chaetopteridae) was noticed at Stn. 29, 30, 31 and 42. Further, empty tubes alone were collected at Stn. 38. The color of these tubes and wooden pieces collected simultaneously was seen as black. This phenomena may indicate an anaerobic condition there. An indicator species of pollution, Paraprionospio pinnata (Spionidae), was identified at Stn. 31, 55 and 60. Acila (Truncacila) insignis (Nuculidae-Pelecypoda), Portlandia (Portlande lla) japonica (Nuculanidae), Amusium japonicum (Pectinidae), and Schizaster lacunosus (Schizasteridae-Echinoidea) were numerous next to polychaetes. 4. As compared with the above mentioned two areas (mouth and innermost parts of the bay), the numbers of species and individual in the central portion of the bay were conspicuously small.
