The animals having black gills increased gradually in number about 10 days onward after nuclear insertion. \n3) Based on the above results the following conclusion may be possible that the color change occuring in gills seems to be attributable to certain enviromental factors and physiological conditions. \n4) In the black gill, there are found many dark violet granules in the epithelial cells forming the gill filaments and some other components. The granules can be extracted from the fresh gill tissue through the use of acid solvent such as HCl-alcohol.
