The cytoplasm of epithelial cells of the abnormal pearl-sac forming a periostracal pearl, almost always contained more Baker's acid hematein test positive granules than the epithelia of the normal ones (Fig. 1 and 3). \n\nIn the epithelia of the abnormal pearl-sac, the Baker's acid hematein test positive granules were concentrated in both near their free surface as many as the space between the nucleus and free surface. \n\nAs a control, the same procedure was carried out after the treatment with pyridine.
