In four sevenband grouper rearing groups, 38.4%, 89.2%, 96.0%, and 99.0% of specimens had deformed nostrils (two of these groups were produced by the same fisheries farming center). Deformed nostrils were present in 39.3% of devil stinger. Two study groups of striped jack had deformity rates of 20.9% and 29.8%. Only 4.3% of specimens of Pacific herring group had deformed nostrils.
