However， a development program for chum salmon has been in place since the 1960s with the result that hatchery-rearing and fanning/ranching now supply the majority of chum salmon harvested in Japan. Although Japanese chum salmon stocks have been stable for nearly 30 years, problems，such as global warming， adaptation/acclimation and genetic diversities，have been noted. Future developments and innovation require a historical review of the technical and practica1 aspects of salmon propagation.
