| 内容記述 | An experimental system for the direct measurement of the ventilation volume in abalones has been newly developed. The system is mainly composed of a small chamber fixed around a row of opened shell holes and a respiration chamber, in which the abalone is set, in order to limit free movement. This system is able to continuously and simultaneously measure the amount of oxygen uptake (Vo2) and oxygen utilization at the gills (U) as well as ventilation volume (Vg). Three items of the disk abalone, Nordotis discus hannai, were measured under normoxic condition at 20.1±0.1℃. Vg was 181±29 ml/min/kg total weight, 256±44 ml/min /kg wet weight of the soft part and 647±115 ml/min/kg dry weight of the soft part, Vo2 was 0.699±0.105 ml/min/kg total weight, 0.945±0.162 ml/min/kg wet weight of the soft part and 4.08±0.82 ml/min/kg dry weight of the soft part, and U was 69.9±4.8%. The value of Vo2 coincides well with that calculated from the formula. Therefore, this method has been proven to be useful for the direct measurement of several respiratory functions of abalones. | |||||||||||
