| 内容記述 | Echo integration mid-water trawl survey of walleye pollock (Theragra chalcogramma) in the Bering Sea was conducted in winter 1999. The survey was conducted during spawning season, covered an area of the major spawning ground of the pelagic pollock in the southeastern Aleutian Basin. Most pollock were observed in extremely dense aggregations near the Islands of Four Mountains (IFM). Only few echo signs were observed around the Bogoslof Island historically known as the spawning ground of Aleutian Basin pollock. The vertical distribution of pollock echo sign ranged between 400 m and 600 m below the surface. The length modes of the pollock from the IFM area were observed 540 mm for the male and 580 mm for the female. Appearance frequency of the fish smaller than 500 mm was very small in the spawning fish aggregation. Ageing results suggested that 1989 year class was the dominant, and the most of the fish were older than 10-years old. During the survey period, most of the fish were in a pre-spawning stage, and we estimated that the spawning began shortly after the survey ended. The results suggested that some of the biological characteristics of the pelagic pollock have been changing in this decade, such as dominant year class, spawning ground/period, and size composition. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
