| 内容記述 | The Japanese sardine has shown remarkable delay in growth and enlargement of distribution area through the process of a rapid increase in stock abundance since later half of the 1970's. To examine the density-dependent feeding ground selection and delay in growth of the sardine, a linear equation between individual growth and stock abundance was derived, using area of feeding ground, feeding effort and food abundance as parameters. This equation was adapted to the sardine migrated into the waters off southeastern coast of Hokkaido. The results of adaptation differed between the periods of before and after 1980. The 1976-1979 year-group showed a high potential growth and a clear density-dependent decline in growth. However, the 1980-1986 year-group showed a low but density-independent growth corresponding to the expansion of feeding ground to the area of relatively low available food density. It was concluded that the Japanese sardine has made ecological adaptation so as to maintain high level abundance securing food resources by enlarging feeding area at the cost of individual growth. | |||||||||||||||||
