| 内容記述 | The jigging fishery for common squid (Todarodes pacificus STEENSTRUP) extends nearly all over the coasts of Japan. Virtually all of the commercial catch is made by jigging fishery. The total catch in Japan began to increase in around 1954 and lasted for 1950-1970 period at high level between 300 and 600 thousands tons. Up to 1970 the catch from the Pacific coasts had a large share in the Japanese total, and after that sharply decreased. In the pacific fishing grounds up to early 1960's, the catch made from the coasts of northern Japan during June through December (Pacific side, north of Miyagi prefecture) averaged around 95 percent of the total, showing that there was considerable geographical decline in the relative density from north to south along Japanese coasts. In recent years after 1972, however, such a trend in catch and relative density exactly disappeared from the Pacific coasts. Fishing effort for squid jigging fishery, in terms of fishing days, increased to twofold or more from 1953 to 1979 in the Pacific coasts, suggesting an opposite correlation between catch and effort. Total mortality estimated from the cummulative catch curves also showed the increasing trend from 0.3 to 0.6 in that period (natural mortality estimated to be about 0.246). As for the squid population entered into the northern fishing grounds of the Pacific, it seems to be desirable to start to fish in August or September from the view points of efficient capturing as well as conservation of the adult population. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
