| 内容記述 | Gonadal maturation, spawning and embryonic development of the striped tripletooth goby collected at Manazuru bay in Kanagawa Prefecture were examined. In both sexes, maturation (spermatogenesis or yolk formation) begins between February and March. The monthly mean values of gonadosomatie index (GSI) of sexes begin to increase from March. The GSIs show high levels during April to August, indicating a considerably long breeding season. A pair of the gobies kept in a experimental tank spawns several times in the breeding season. The number of spawned eggs was about 8,400 to 12,000. The fertilized eggs are pyriform, 1.45 mm in long axis and 0.55 mm in short axis, with adhesive filaments at the basal end. They hatch 7-10 days after spawning at 18-26C. The hatched larva is about 3.0 mm in total length. In the breeding season, GSI decreases to 1.5-2.0 just after spawning, followed by a sharp increase for a few days. This result shows that the empty follicles from ovulated eggs disappear in the ovary for only 2 days and then yolk formation begins 2 days after spawning for the next. These changes are related to the repeated spawning in the breeding season. Furthermore, courtship and spawning behaviour was easily observed in the tank. This small goby is easily kept in a experimental tank. Thus, its relatively short life cycle, repeated spawning and ease of breeding are useful for clarifying hormonal control of maturation or relation between spawning and pheromone in a sea-water teleost. | |||||||||||
