内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 The table of fish catches' statistics has been published annualy from Fisheries Agency since 1905. According to the statistics, the sardine was caught in quantities of more than 1,000,000 tons from 1928 to 1941 around Japan and Korea, and from 1976 to the present around Japan. Many fisheries biologists have discussed the variation of sardine stock mainly from the biological aspects (ITO, 1961; NAKAI, 1962; HIRAMOTO, 1981 and the others). They have a tendency to process the environmental features such as the oceanographic or meteorological conditions to be the secondary elements for the variation of the fish abundance. KAWASAKI (1983) said that sardine is the fish nearest to the sun. This suggests that sardine is greatly affected by meteorological conditions through their life cycle. The sardine catch has a peak in the 1930's and decreased abruptly from 1939 to 1942. In this paper, climate impact on sardine resources is examined with respect to the variation of sardine catch in the prewar period. Air temperature, amount of cloud, sunshine hours and precipitation were picked up from the observed meteorological elements both in the coastal area corresponding to the spawning ground of Satsunan (south of Kyushu) and to the nursery grounds of sardine larvae along the Japan Sea coast and the Pacific coast. These meteorological elements were inspected by taking average from January to April of each year for the spawning season and from April to June of each year for the larval stage season. Characteristic features of these meteorological elements are checked by comparing the 1930's and 1940 values to the trend and the total mean of each season. It is frequent that the air temperature is below the mean, the sunshine hours are above the mean and the precipitation is below or around the mean in the spawning ground through the 1930's and 1940. An abrupt change of metorological conditions can not be detected in the spawning ground in 1939 and 1940. The meteorological condition had no peculiar change around the spawning ground through the 1930's and 1940. The meteorological condition in the nursery ground was extraordinary in 1940. In 1940, the amount of cloud is the least and on the contrary, sunshine hours are the longest through the observed period at almost all meteorological observatory stations in the nursery grounds both in the Japan Sea and the Pacific coast of Japan. Copepoda individuals of Boso to Kashima-nada sea area are counted in March of each year from 1968 to 1979 (except 1971) by KIDACHI (1979). The copepoda products vary correlated with the amount of cloud of March at Choshi with the correlation coefficient of 0. 49. By applying this result to the prewar period, it is estimated that the copepoda in the nursery ground of sardine larvae was 30% to 40% in 1940 compared to the average. This result suggests that the copepoda nauplius were very few in the nursery ground of sardine larvae. Therefore, most of the larvae could not find food and starved to death in 1940. It was estimated that the Kuroshio streamed in an extraordinary path like W-shape south of Honshu in 1939 and the Kuroshio path of that year gave the minus factor to the transportation of sardine larvae (TOMOSADA, 1983). The sardine abundance would be decreased by the succeeding two years' environmental impact of ocean and meteorology.
