内容記述 Some fish meal especially prepared from dark muscle fish was proved to induce gizzard erosion in broiler chicks by feeding per os. Histidine, histamine or their precursors have been snspected as toxic substances in these fish meals. However, it was also reported that the same toxic fish meal was harmless to rats. While, on the contrary, fish soluble containing histamine or tyramine was indicated by another report to be toxic to rats in abundant dose. A rat feeding test was carried out in order to resolve the discrepancy between the two reports mentioned above. Five kinds of different fish meals were used as samples. They were mackerel meat scrap, sardine meat scrap, imported fish meal, sardine meal prepared by mild treatment from fresh fish, and white fish meal. The former three were testified to be toxic to chicks and the latter two were expected to be harmless to chicks. Rats weighing 40-60 g were divided into five groups. Each group of rats received the diet containing any one of the above five meals in 9.5% protein level. After 36 day's feeding, all rats were killed after blood collection. Average growth ratio of rats, apparent protein digestibility and protein efficiency ratio (PER) were calculated. Pathological tissue examination of digestive tracts of rats and determination of plasma glutamic oxisalacetic transaminase (GOT) and glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) were carried out. The result showed no particular difference in the above several items among five groups of rats. Namely, it is concluded that fish meals tested were harmless to rats under the present experimental conditions.
