内容記述 | The authors stated previously (KIKUCHI and UKI, 1974a) that the effect of irradiated sea water with U.V. rays of 2,537A to cause spawning is shown not only on Haliotis but also on the scallop. In this paper, the details of the experiment with the scallop, Patinopecten yessoensis (JAY), is dealt with. The scallop cultured by the method of hanging in Onagawa Bay, Miyagi Prefecture in northern Japan, were used for the experiment during March to April of 1974. This is the usual spawning season of this species. Their mean size is 10.3 cm in height and 150.5 g in weight. The materials were carried to our laboratory and reared in aqua-tank for two days before the experiment started. Stimulus for artificial spawning in the experiment was U.V. rays irradiated sea water used only in water temperature similar to that of Onagawa Bay at that time (Fig. 1). The results are as follows. 1) Using running sea water with U.V. rays irradiation 600 milliwatt hour (abbr. mWh) per liter, it was cleared that only the irradiated sea water could remarkably induce spawning (see Table 1). The amount of eggs and sperm induced by this treatment followed clearly the advancing maturity of the cultured scallop in nature and the time taken for spawning became shorter with increasing maturity. The amount of eggs and sperm reduced remarkably in late April when natural spawning was supposed to occure (Fig. 2). 2) As for the amount of stimulus, it was obvious that the spawning increased in proportion to the amount of the irradiation. All spawning of the scallop occured at the irradiation to sea water in 818.4 mWh per liter. The time taken for spawning became shorter with the increase of the irradiation. Male responsed to the stimulus earlier than female (Fig. 4). No trouble was observed at time of the fertilization and in the early life of the scallop by both sexual materials induced artificially by the U.V. rays irradiation. | |||||||||
