The present study reviews occurrence and abundance of commercially important species immigrating set net fishing grounds along the coast of Joban and Sanriku, Lat. 36°N-40°N, which covers four prefectures inclusive of Ibaraki, Fukushima, Miyagi and Iwate, basing upon the continuously collected catch statistics. Also examined here for detailed study are logbooks from the set nets operated at Okimatsuiso, around Lat. 40°N, one of representative fishing grounds in the Iwate Prefecture. Common mackerel, Scomber japonicus (HOUTTUYN), dominated among the catch taken by the large-sized nets that are set in the shore areas of 27 m or deeper. The major species by the small-sized nets operated in the shore areas less than 27 m in depth differed appreciably among the four prefectures, i.e. sardine, Sardinops melanosticta (TEMMINCK & SCHLEGEL), in Ibaraki and Fukushima, common mackerel in Miyagi, and chum salmon, Oncorhynchus keta (WALBAUM), in Iwate. Such differences of dominant species reflect segregation of fishes in the coastal waters. Only chum salmon was the species abundantly caught by the set nets in the autumn and winter before ascending the rivers. The major fishing season of this gear for almost all the dominating fishes corresponded to the period of the northward migration of respective species in the spring and summer. Common mackerel comprised the highest percentages in the catch taken in major set net grounds under study. Sardines have been on the increase since 1975. Abundantly caught by the set nets in the Miyagi, Fukushima and Ibaraki Prefectures was file fish, Novadon modestis (GUNTHER), that has become prosperous in the southern Japan for the last ten years. Yellowtail, Seriola quinqueradiata (TEMMINCK & SCHLEGEL), has also been important for the set net fishery in the area under discussion. Adults of this species were mostly taken in the southern prefectures of Miyagi, Fukushima and Ibaraki, while the youngs expanded their distribution range to the Iwate Prefecture in the summer. Significant catch of chum salmon was limited to the northernmost prefecture of Iwate. Logbooks collected at the Okimatsuiso Ground revealed dominance of common mackerel and decline of squids, which have also been found in the near-by set net grounds and in the offshore boat fisheries. Significant species taken by the set nets at this ground comprised sea bass, Lateolabrax japonicus (CUVIER), cherry salmon, Oncorhynchus masou var. masou (BREVOORT), king salmon, O. tschawytscha (WALBAUM), and several species of squids. Pink salmon, Oncorhynchus gorbuscha (WALBAUM), and flying fish, Prognichthys agoo (TEMMINCK & SCHLEGEL), also appeared occasionally in the catch therein.

常磐·三陸沿岸の各県農林水産統計年報(水産編)による定置網漁獲統計,200 カイリ内漁業資源調査に基づく岩手·宮城·福島·茨城4県下における定置網標本船操業日報(1978·1979年分)および岩手県普代村堀内沖松磯定置網漁場の1963年から1978年(ただし1966年分は欠く)の漁況記録を用いて三陸·常磐の定置綱漁況変動の検討を行った.1. 各県農林統計年報の最近3カ年の資料によって,県ごと·規模ごとの定置網漁獲量をみると,一般に大型定置網の漁獲物のうちで,第1位の漁獲最を占めるものはマサバであり,小型定置網の場合にはマイワシまたはその他の魚種が首位を占めるようになる,このような規模による漁獲対象種の変化は各魚種の回遊過程における接岸状況の差を反映しているものである.2. 200カイリ内標本船調査結果によって次のような事実が明らかにされた.イ.秋·冬に盛漁になるシロザケは別にして,一般に定置網漁業の対象となる魚種は,それぞれの魚種の北上期にあたる春~夏に漁獲対象になるものが多く,秋の南下期の漁獲量は少ない。ロ,主要魚種の来遊状況の特徴は次の通りであった.各地ともマサバの全漁獲量中に占める比率が高いが,近年はマイワシも比重が大きくなっている.ウマゾラハギの分布域はいまのところ宮城県以南に限られている.ブリについては,大型成魚は茨城県を中心とした常磐沿岸に限定されており,イナダ·ショッコなどと称される小型末成魚が夏に北上して三陸近海に分布する、サケ類の分布の中心は岩手県である.3. 岩手県北部沿岸や沖合の各種漁業の全般的な漁獲傾向を反映している沖松磯定置網漁場の漁獲物から年々比較的定常的に来遊するスズキ·サクラマス·マスノスケ·イカ類と偶来的に出現するカラフトマス·トビウオなどを区分することができる.本漁場における秋のシロザケの漁獲はいまのところ少ないが,今後増加が期待される.
