| 内容記述 | NOAA satellite infrared data was used to show the characteristic features of frontal eddies in the vicinity of the Kuroshio front. The Kuroshio frontal eddy is commonly observed as a folded wave pattern with a tongue-like warm filament surrounding a cold core during all seasons. The length and width of the tongue-like warm filaments range from 18 to 130 km and from 4 to 28 km, respectively. The cold core on the inside of the warm filament appears to form cyclonic flows. These patterns travel to the northeast at speeds ranging from 35 to 45 cms-1. These features are believed to be similar to those of the Gulf Stream frontal eddies, suggesting that the Kuroshio frontal eddies are generated and evolve through similar dynamic processes to those of the Gulf Stream frontal eddies. | |||||||
